NICHOLAS KANNEGIETER Stringhalt in horses Stringhalt is a disease of horses characterised by abnormal hyperflexion of one or both hind legs. Stringhalt is a commonly encountered worldwide, but is particularly well recognized in Australia, to the extent that the outbreak form of the disease is often referred to as Australian Stringhalt. The disease is sometimes also further classified as classic stringhalt which appears to be the same as Australian stringhalt, and atypical stringhalt.
